Body discovered off Highway A

Deputies located a deceased female whose body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Investigators observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound and recovered a firearm and shell casing near the body. Detectives processed the scene and collected evidence as they began working to determine both the woman’s identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.

Investigators connected the death to a missing-person case

During the investigation, detectives learned that an 18-year-old woman who had been in foster care had been reported missing from a nearby residence several days earlier.

Investigators also learned that the missing woman had reportedly left the residence with a firearm that was later reported stolen.

The Sheriff’s Office said detectives examined numerous pieces of information, including:

4- Information from case workers

After examining those circumstances, investigators worked with the Medical Examiner’s Office to establish the deceased woman’s identity.
