🚨 FORMER PROBATION OFFICER CHARGED‼️

KINGDOM CITY, MISSOURI —

A disturbing homicide investigation in central Missouri has led to the arrest of a 44-year-old former probation and parole officer.

Authorities say a 911 call from one of seven children led deputies to a hotel where the children were staying with their father.

Jonathan Guthrie Houston has been charged in connection with the death of his wife, Aunika C. Houston, 37.

Investigators say the killing occurred approximately 10 months before authorities discovered what had happened.

The children were found at the Baymont Inn & Suites in Kingdom City and subsequently placed in protective custody.

Charging documents describe a child quietly seeking help and reporting that her father had taken her and her siblings and that they had experienced abuse.

When deputies arrived, they located seven children with Houston.

Investigators subsequently received information indicating that a woman had been killed at the hotel months earlier.

The children provided information about their mother’s death, prompting further investigation.

What Investigators Say Happened

According to the probable-cause statement described in news reports, one of the children told investigators that Houston had strangled their mother in late 2025 while some of the children were present.

Another child reportedly said Houston had discussed plans to kill their mother before the alleged killing.

Court documents further state that Houston concealed his wife’s body in a bag and placed it in a dumpster on the hotel property.

Investigators also reported

that Houston acknowledged

killing his wife.

Authorities said Aunika Houston, was originally from California and had been living in central Missouri for several years.

The case has raised serious questions about how the killing remained undiscovered for months and how the family’s circumstances went unreported before the emergency call brought authorities to the hotel.

Jonathan Houston, 44, has been charged in Callaway County in connection with the case.

First-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping are among the charges.

He was being held in the Callaway County Jail without bond as of the latest reports.

The seven children remain in protective custody following their discovery.

Their safety, emotional well-being and access to appropriate support are critical concerns as authorities continue investigating.

The priority must remain the protection and well-being of the children involved as a thorough investigation is conducted.
